Bible Focus: Ephesians 6:13-19
Scripture Focus: “Therefore take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything to stand firm.” Ephesians 6:13 NASB
In May 2005, over 4, 000 members of the Georgia 48th Brigade were deployed to assist overseas in Iraq with the efforts to find peace in that country. It was the largest combat unit of the Georgia National Guard to deploy overseas since World War II, or so the research states.
Before arriving in Iraq, the troops went through several months of training at Fort Stewart, as well as in California. They were given a list of items and materials to help them in their duties while in Iraq. This armor included manuals to read, weapons to carry, and certain clothing to wear to help accomplish their goals while being on the front lines.
I read somewhere recently a commentary of the key verses. “Spiritual strength and courage are needed for our spiritual warfare and suffering. Those who would prove themselves to have true grace, must aim at all grace; and put on the whole armor of God, which he prepares and bestows. The Christian armor is made to be worn; and there is no putting off our armor till we have done our warfare, and finished our course.”
God is the only one who knows our course, and He is the one who made our armor, so why shouldn’t we put on what He has given us before we hit life’s front lines?
“Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel.” Ephesians 6:14-19(NIV)
Prayer Thought: “Dear Lord, Give us this day the training and armor to do what you would have us to do as we walk the ‘front lines’ in our daily lives. Thank you for the opportunity to learn and grow in you through the victories and losses. Amen.”
