Dog Gone – A lost pet’s extraordinary journey and the family who brought him home
By Paul Toutonghi
Rating: 4.9 Stars
Paul Toutonghi’s ‘Dog Gone – A lost pet’s extraordinary journey and the family who brought him home’ is an exceptional true tale of unconditional love between a canine and his family, as well as the family members themselves.
In October 1998, Fielding Marshall and his dog, Gonker, a six-year-old Golden Retriever mix, were hiking. For some reason, Gonker disappears after running into the woods.
The canine has Addison’s Disease – which could prove fatal if Gonker is not found immediately. Fielding and his father start search with their other dog. At home, the mother, Virginia, heads the search at home – calling everyone and every agency she can find. The Associated Press picks up the story. It is then that the family realize there is a possibility that they might have to face the fact that Gonker could be gone forever.
Could they handle such a loss? Each member of the family revisits their past – thinking about Gonker and other things. Yet, they pull it together, and focus in on their mission – to find Gonker.
There is humor, love, loss, perseverance and even some surprises in this true tale.
I highly recommend it.
You will want to hug your dogs a little closer and your family too.
