A big fan of Calvert’s writing, I was excited to pick up this book. The story encompasses the reality of emergency services and shows that those in medicine who we normal people might see as our super heroes are normal everyday people, with challenges like the rest of us.
Calvert expertly pens a tale of Sloane Ferrell – an ER nurse – who needed a fresh start. She has changed her name, her job, her style and location. Being somewhat of an introvert keeps Sloane from having to get too close to anyone. This keeps her safe and her heart stays guarded.
That is until she meets Micah Prescott. He is the former journalist turned hospital marketing man. Though he has to put the hospital out in the eye of the world, Prescott’s most favorite part of his life is as a volunteer with the crisis responding team. A family tragedy rook a piece of his life that he tries to fill with service.
Micah and Sloane dance around the potential of a relationship – both a little bit guarded, but one more willing to try than the other. When they do start caring for each other equally, things happen that send Sloan running again.
But then something happens that brings her back …
And that is why you need to pick up this lovely piece of work in the Crisis series by Candace Calvert. She has done it again – what a good read.
